Cannabis gummy bears and gummy worms are carving out a place as one of the most enjoyable and popular ways to consume cannabis.
The following recipe, adapted from one we love from the Cannaschool, is straightforward and perfect for using infused coconut oil:
Why make THC gummies?
Edibles can easily take about an hour and a half or more to kick in so patience is key. If you don’t feel anything after an hour, just kick back and wait. Your metabolism may be slower or perhaps you still had a full stomach when you ate the edible. Either way, when eating edibles, your best bet is to just start with a small dose or the typical amount you take, and then just be patient and wait.
You can also use a double-boiler. Just put water in the bottom pan, add the coconut oil to the top section, stir in the cannabis and heat at 130-150°F (55-65°C) for about one hour. With a slow cooker, just combine the oil and the weed and cook on low for about an hour.
It’s a smart idea to be cautious and try a half — or even a quarter — of a gummy the first time to get an idea of how strong your first batch is.
1 Package (About ½ cup) of gelatin dessert in your choice of flavor.
1 ½ cups of coconut water or fruit juice.
1 Tablespoon of sweetener to taste.
An amount of CBD oil sufficient for your desired dosage.
While there are plenty of recipes out there, this one is the easiest you’ll find. It doesn’t take a lot of ingredients, and your DIY CBD gummies can be cooling in under an hour. The hardest part for some people is the math.
Let’s get started.
100mg / 50mg/ml = 2ml
If I was using Core CBD’s Natural Hemp CBD Oil 1500mg, which has a concentration of 50mg/ml, I would need 2 ml of tincture to add to my recipe.
In order to get a known dosage from the gummies, you’ll want to know how much CBD each one gives you. This recipe should make approximately 50 gummies the size of the popular little bears. Silicone molds are available in these traditional bear shapes and many others, both large and small. Determine the dosage you want each gummy to give you, then multiply that amount by the number of gummies you’re creating. As an example, if I was making 50 small DIY CBD gummies and I wanted to get 2mg of CBD from each of them, I would need to put 100 mg into my recipe.
A saucepan, whisk, and an appropriate number of silicone molds. Optional: A funnel and squeeze bottle.
